Honolulu, HI –The International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union Local 142 announced today its endorsement of State Senator Donna Mercado Kim to become the next congresswoman from Hawai’i. The announcement was made earlier today at a meeting for union leadership, members, and retirees.

“Donna has a proven track record for fighting for working families in Hawai`i and we can count on her to fight for us in Washington,” said ILWU Local 142 President Donna Domingo. “Senator Kim was born and raised in Hawai’i in a working-class family and shares our same values and hard work ethic. I’m confident her leadership and experience make her the best Representative for us in Congress.” said Domingo.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement from ILWU Local 142 and the hard-working men and women they represent. I will fight to protect and support working families every day that I am in Congress,” Kim said. “They represent the core of who we are as a nation;and their economic livelihood is under threat.”

The latest independent poll has Kim positioned as the front-runner for the August primary election. She has raised more than $400,000, giving her the resources to reach every voter with her message for quality public education, women’s rights, and protecting Social Security and Medicare.

Kim is the most experienced candidate in the race, with more than three decades in elective office. Born and raised in Kalihi, Kim has served on the City Council, State House of Representatives and in the State Senate.
