State Senator Donna Mercado Kim officially files to become next Congresswoman to represent Hawaii’s 1st District

Honolulu, HI – State Senator Donna Mercado Kim will file her nomination papers on Monday, June 4th at 3:30 pm at the Office of Elections, 235 S. Beretania, to formally enter the race to become the next Congresswoman to represent Hawaii’s 1st District. Kim will be joined by family and friends as she takes the Oath.

“I am tremendously honored and humbled to take this formal step to become the next Congresswoman to represent Hawaii’s First Congressional District. This campaign has always been about the people of the First District and as I take the Oath to run for Congress today, I am motivated by the families, students and, kupuna who have asked me to be their warrior in Washington, D.C.” said Kim.

The latest independent poll has Kim positioned as the front-runner for the August primary election. She has raised more than $400,000, giving her the resources to reach every voter with her message for affordable health care, quality public education and protecting social security and Medicaid.

Kim is the most experienced candidate in the race, with more than 3 decades in elective office. Born and raised in Kalihi, Kim has served on the City Council, State House of Representatives and in the State Senate.

State Senator Kim has spent her career fighting for quality public school education and protecting women’s healthcare.
